Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Technical Contributions. Responsible for performing and guiding technical activities resulting from approved self-initiated or assigned manufacturing programs leading to innovative applications and extensions of existing or new products/technologies having major importance to the business of the division/business/staff organization. Expands the use of extensive knowledge of statistical techniques for monitoring and improving manufacturing processes. Improves upon these skills through regular participation in appropriate activities.

2. Leadership. Initiates, identifies, recommends, and oversees programs in the manufacturing area of responsibility to improve:( 1) product cost, service, and quality, and/or (2) process safety and health/environmental impact.

3. Intellectual Property. Has an awareness of implications of intellectual property on the process(es). Provide appropriate and timely documentation of work as required by the business unit.

4. Education. Identifies and implements a comprehensive education plan to continually advance technical skills and personal development as well as promotes and actively participates in programs to enhance organizational effectiveness. Functions as a technical resource and mentor within immediate work group. Begins establishing self as a technical expert, resource, and mentor throughout the division.

5. Strategic Planning. Actively participates in and may lead project planning efforts. Suggests changes or future direction as needed. Participates in implementing changes and future direction.

6. Interaction. Fosters and cultivates an extensive network of support and resources (laboratory, quality, financial,

manufacturing, engineering, sales, and marketing) to facilitate completion of assignments

Qualifications:

This classification is an introductory position for master graduates having a degree in engineering or physical science from an accredited university or college or individuals with a lesser degree in those sciences plus applicable experience.

Actively participates in developing project assignments and completes assignments without detailed instructions. May guide the technical activities of other employees. Maintains and enhances an in-depth knowledge of assigned manufacturing technology, processes, costs and associated influences, and new or modified equipment justification, procurement, design and installation. Has a working knowledge and understanding of activities/technologies that relate to the work group or plant.

Maintains and enhances a working manufacturing knowledge encompassing aspects of operations, materials control/logistics/supply chain, quality control, extended equipment value streams, etc. Develops an awareness of activities/technologies that relate to the manufacturing department or plant. Augments an extensive knowledge base of statistical techniques for monitoring and improving manufacturing processes. Advances these skills through regular participation in appropriate training activities.

Develops knowledge of money management issues and understands the relationship between managing manufacturing project budgets and the corresponding financial impact on assigned business unit.

Enhances advanced communication skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Enhances advanced team effectiveness and leadership skills.

Maintains awareness of current and developing safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures, applies same to all assignments. Promotes appropriate safety practices to coworkers, as necessary.

Multinational or global interactions may be required. Local language and working knowledge of English is generally required.
